CHOOSING THE RIGHT CONTRACTORWaterSafe and water mains specialists:
what should you check?
Searching for a WaterSafe contractor to repair or replace an underground water pipe? Check both the contractor's current approval and their practical experience of the work you need.
THE REGISTERWhat does WaterSafe cover?
WaterSafe's contractor search includes plumbers and water supply pipe installers, alongside other specialist categories. Supply pipe installers work on the underground supply up to the internal stop valve. A plumbing listing alone does not describe every company's equipment, project experience or trenchless capability.

This independent directory focuses on water mains repair and replacement, supply pipe installation, leak investigation, impact moling and directional drilling. Our directory standard adds checks for relevant water-company or equivalent network experience, £10m public liability insurance and named industry training.
See the directory standardYOUR PROJECTChoose evidence of the right skills
Ask for comparable work on the relevant pipe size and material, the installation method proposed, the people who will attend and the approvals covering their work. Neither a general plumbing qualification nor general groundworks experience alone demonstrates the full range of underground water engineering skills.
Find a water mains specialist WaterSafe registration and WIAPS certificates
WaterSafe is a register, not a training course. WIAPS is one of the approved-contractor schemes. Check current scheme membership, scope and the certificate that will be issued for your work. An approval covering a domestic supply pipe does not by itself demonstrate competence for every large commercial main or self-lay project.

The National Directory of Water Engineers is not WaterSafe, is not affiliated with WaterSafe and does not replace its register or WIAPS. Each listing displays its current NDWE assessment status. Lucking Utility Services is approved by the directory owner; the other companies are awaiting assessment. The aim is to help customers assess specialist capability alongside current approvals.
