OUR MINIMUM DIRECTORY STANDARD

Customer trust starts with evidence.

Customers should be able to understand who is working on their water supply and what supports their competence. Every company seeking a verified directory listing must meet all published requirements below before verification can be considered.

01 / INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE

Relevant Water-Network Experience

The company must demonstrate relevant water-company employment or equivalent demonstrable network experience within its technical leadership or delivery team. Evidence must identify the individual, employer, role and employment dates, with experience relevant to water mains or supply infrastructure.

02 / PUBLIC LIABILITY

At least £10 million cover

A current public liability insurance policy providing at least £10 million of cover for the activities the company undertakes. The policy schedule, insured business and relevant scope of work must be checked.

03 / WATER HYGIENE

EUSR Water Hygiene

Engineers carrying out water engineering work must hold current EUSR National Water Hygiene registration. Individual records and expiry dates must be verified before approval.

04 / INDUSTRY SAFETY

SHEA Water

Engineers carrying out water engineering work must hold current SHEA Water training and registration. Evidence must be linked to the people undertaking the work.

05 / UNDERGROUND SERVICES

Service Avoidance training

Engineers carrying out water engineering work must provide current evidence of Service Avoidance training. Records must identify the holder, provider, course scope and completion date, including renewal requirements where applicable.

06 / APPROVAL & CERTIFICATION

Approved-Contractor Scheme & Certification Scope

Every company seeking a verified listing must demonstrate current relevant approved-contractor scheme registration and certification scope for the relevant work, with appropriately trained personnel able to issue the applicable certificates of compliance within their approved scope.

Experience held by people. Accountability held by the company.

Direct employment and equivalent network experience must be supported by evidence of relevant roles, responsibilities and completed work. Subcontract experience is assessed against the same technical requirements. The company must identify how that person's experience contributes to its current technical supervision or delivery.

These are directory entry requirements. They do not replace the permissions, qualifications or working procedures required for a particular job.

Training, registration and certificates: know the difference.

WaterSafe is an approved-contractor register, not a training qualification. WIAPS is an approved-contractor scheme. A contractor's ability to certify work depends on its current approval, scope and the applicable scheme requirements. A supply pipe approval should not be taken as evidence of competence for every larger mains or self-lay project.

Before work starts, customers should confirm who will carry it out, the approval covering that work and the certificate they will receive. Lucking Utility Services is Verified & Approved by the directory owner. Other listed companies are awaiting assessment. Check each company profile for its evidence, approval basis and service scope. NDWE approval is separate from current water-industry scheme registration.

Technical Competence for the Actual Work

Hygiene and safety registrations are baseline requirements. They do not by themselves demonstrate pipe-jointing, excavation, leak detection or trenchless competence. Applicants must supply relevant technical qualifications or assessed competence, comparable project records, methods, equipment and supervision for each service requested.

WIAPS is one approved-contractor scheme. Equivalent recognised approvals must be assessed for the relevant jurisdiction and work. The certificate offered must match the approved scope.
